Visualizing depth of student conceptual understanding using subquestions and alluvial diagrams

چکیده
We aim to graphically analyze the depth of conceptual understanding behind Force Concept Inventory (FCI) responses students, focusing on three questions (questions 1, 15, and 28). In our study, we created implemented subquestions clarify quantify students’ reasoning steps in reaching their original FCI questions. used alluvial diagrams visualize students questions, representing transition rates across question options as flows. The flows represent common patterns consistency inconsistency understandings subquestions. By combining did, are able efficiently for a given situation existence specific misconception. For example, found that even among those who correctly answered 15 about Newton’s third law, many incorrectly corresponding subquestion asking whether law holds at end interaction between two objects. This misconception turned out be fairly robust, these same had similar answering pattern 28. Alluvial can broad range applications, including analysis multiple-tier tests, testlets (e.g., 8 through 11), tests representational variant FCI), so on.Received 20 April 2023Accepted July 2023DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevPhysEducRes.19.020121Published by American Physical Society under terms Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. an investigation into translation of cultural concepts by beginner and advance student using think – aloud protocols
this research aims at answering the questions about translation problems and strategies applied by translators when translating cultural concepts. in order to address this issue, qualitative and quantitative study were conducted on two groups of subjects at imam reza international university of mashhad. these two groups were assigned as beginner and advanced translation students (10 students). ...
A Method of Understanding Conceptual Diagrams
A conceptual diagram is a line drawing which represents semantic structure of concepts usirtg simple yeometric entities. This paper presents a method of understanding conceptual diagrams. The objective of our method is to interpret semantic roles of geometric entities in conceptual diagrams. In conceptual diagrams, however, a single geometric entity plays various semantic roles for representing...
متن کاملLongitudinal study of student conceptual understanding in electricity and magnetism
We have investigated the long-term effect of student-centered instruction at the freshman level on juniors’ performance on a conceptual survey of Electricity and Magnetism E&M . We measured student performance on a research-based conceptual instrument—the Brief Electricity & Magnetism Assessment BEMA –over a period of 8 semesters 2004–2007 . Concurrently, we introduced the University of Washing...
متن کاملBreviz: Visualizing Spreadsheets using Dataflow Diagrams
Spreadsheets are used extensively in industry, often for business critical purposes. In previous work we have analyzed the information needs of spreadsheet professionals and addressed their need for support with the transition of a spreadsheet to a colleague with the generation of data flow diagrams. In this paper we describe the application of these data flow diagrams for the purpose of unders...
متن کاملVisualizing set relations and cardinalities using Venn and Euler diagrams
In medicine, genetics, criminology and various other areas, Venn and Euler diagrams are used to visualize data set relations and their cardinalities. The data sets are represented by closed curves and the data set relationships are depicted by the overlaps between these curves. Both the sets and their intersections are easily visible as the closed curves are preattentively processed and form co...
